The first chakra, called muladhara, is located at the base of the spine. “Muladhara” means root.
The Root Chakra is responsible for making us feel grounded, sense of safety, physical needs and familial relationships.
Signs that your root chakra may be imbalanced or blocked can include:
Leg, arm, or foot issues
Sore lower back
Feeling insecure
Restless
Lacking energy
Anxious
Inability to focus
Depressed
These feelings can be overwhelming and hold us back.
Some ways that you can connect to your Root Chakra and work to open it are:
Use of essential oils such as frankincense, myrrh, ginger, sandalwood, rosewood, rosemary, cedar, clove
Reiki energy healing
Yin Yoga
Meditation
Grounding - walking/standing barefoot in the grass or if unable to do so outside, to the floor.
Gemstone healing - either resting gemstones in place on your root chakra or wearing them. These gemstones can include ruby, red jasper, garnet, black tourmaline, bloodstone, red carnelian, and onyx.
Here is a little mediation you can use to connect to your Root Chakra:
Sit with your shoulders back and your spine straight. Try to relax all your muscles as you close your eyes and breathe deeply. Inhale through the nose, pulling the breath as far down into your body as you can, and exhale through the mouth.
Turn your attention to the location of the root chakra, right below your tailbone. Notice any tightness in the area.
Since the root chakra's element is red, try picturing a red glow at the base of your spine. This glow will slowly expand, making the whole area warm and relaxed. Rest in this sensation for 3-5 minutes.
When you are ready, slowly open your eyes. Sit for a few minutes before continuing with your day.
Did you notice any differences in the way you feel? What are some ways that you connect to your Root Chakra? I would love to hear!
